The Novice Author’s Autograph Session

A short story by Kerim Kolat

It was the premiere of my first book. I was being excited. I came to the stand early and took my place. There was nobody around even it was the time. I have continued to wait by putting my hands on my knees. After a while, have someone in around thirties approached to the table. He has left his bags on the ground and looked through my book. He had a cursory glance in the pages. He stared at the book cower for a while. He examined it by his hand palm. He was being stuck into the cover which was very attractive. After a while, he said “Well, the cover had been very gorgeous” and put his hand into his pocket. He looked upp and stared around. Then he has seen that I was there and asked “how much does this book cost?”. He was not aware of me so far. Becuase of my first experience, I have realized that it was being so. I answered his question by saying “10 pounds, sir”. He has given away the money without looking at me and bought the book. Well, what would happen now? He was my first reader and should I not sett a charmig signature in the first page of the book? By being timidly, I said “well, I can sign it if you want”. Long haired man answered “No thanks, it is not needed”. I have been frozen up.

As he had taken a few steps, then he stopped suddenly. He was thinking something. I took the pen when I was thinking “I suppose that he had become aware of his misstakes.” He turned back and approached me. He said that “If you want you can help me to carry my bags up to my car”. “Well, I do” I said. What would I say?

When I came to the stand after helping him to carry his bags, then I have seen a small crowd of people that was accumulated.

I should call the publisher and talk about the cover.

    sensational!
